The College of Veterinary Medicine Organizes a Field Activity for Examining and Vaccinating Animals Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease(FMD)
As part of its community service efforts and under the directives of the university presidency and the college administration, in collaboration with the Veterinary Hospital in Wasit, the College of Veterinary Medicine organized a field activity for fifth-year students. This initiative included the examination and vaccination of animals at the Animal Field Unit against foot-and-mouth disease, under the supervision of specialized professors.
The activity aims to enhance preventive measures against this highly contagious viral disease, which poses a significant threat to livestock.
The event involved conducting clinical examinations of the animals, where students assessed vital signs and identified any potential disease symptoms. Additionally, the specific vaccine for foot-and-mouth disease was administered in accordance with approved veterinary procedures.
Professor Dr. Sattar Rashid Suhail, Dean of the College, emphasized the importance of such practical activities, as they provide students with valuable training opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge in real field settings. This hands-on experience significantly contributes to the development of their diagnostic skills and expertise in veterinary preventive measures.
It is worth noting that the College of Veterinary Medicine continues to offer free services and conduct visits to villages in the Al-Hayy district to monitor and diagnose cases of foot-and-mouth disease(FMD) and provide appropriate treatments for infected animals.
