







Under the patronage of the President of the University of Wasit, Prof. Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Uqabi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Thaer Saud Al-Ghasham, the College of Engineering—in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the University of Wasit—organized a training and development course entitled:
“Multi-story Buildings: Types, Features, Structural Systems, and Smart Materials for Sustainability”, held over three days starting from April 7, 2025.
This course aligns with the university’s commitment to achieving the 17th Sustainable Development Goal (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering institutional collaboration between colleges and educational centers for knowledge exchange and capacity building in specialized fields.
The course was delivered by a group of faculty members from the Department of Architecture:

Asst. Lecturer Ayam Shaya Ali
The lectures covered advanced topics related to the classification of multi-story buildings, appropriate structural systems, and the role of smart and advanced materials in façade design to achieve sustainability, improve energy efficiency, and reduce environmental impact. The course also addressed the challenges and opportunities of implementing such materials in the local context.
The event witnessed wide participation from faculty members, postgraduate and undergraduate students of the Department of Architecture, as well as several architecture enthusiasts, totaling 75 participants.
This initiative reflects the University of Wasit’s dedication to promoting knowledge-based partnerships and supporting sustainable education as a fundamental path toward comprehensive sustainable development.
