The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences in Suwaira, Wasit Province, organized a seminar on “The Role of Afforestation in Environmental Conservation.”
The seminar, presented by a group of researchers, highlighted the significant importance of afforestation in environmental conservation and its contribution to reducing high temperatures and absorbing harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide, which cause global warming. It also emphasized its role in promoting public health and preventing diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, as well as adding beauty and charm to landscapes and green spaces.
The seminar recommended planting native and climate-adapted trees, increasing green areas, selecting trees of suitable size for the available space, ensuring sufficient space for their healthy growth, and caring for planted trees, such as regular watering, pruning dry branches, and providing sustainable water sources for trees, such as drip irrigation systems.
